I recently started a new chapter in my life after wrapping up a very memorable number of years living on a remote island in Japan. Starting graduate school was a transition that came with a lot of emotions, nerves, and anxiety but I came out on the other side fine (with a lot of support from friends and loved ones). I am now settling into life as a graduate student at Hiroshima University. I am really excited about this chapter of my life and very motivated to do my best to learn all I can while pursuing this master’s degree in education which will take me out of my comfort zone but allow me opportunities to grow.

From failed Diploma to Graduate school
Looking back at posts related to my learning journey here on this blog is fascinating. In 2008 I was reluctantly doing a paralegal diploma (which I never finished), in 2012 I finally started my undergrad studies, with a lot of work finished in 2016 (without failing any courses) and here I am in 2023 starting a Master’s program in Japan (somebody pinch me please). My early plan for my thesis will have me drawing on a lot of my professional experiences in the last 20 years with not-so-subtle influences from my time living on a remote island. I expect it to go through changes as directed by my supervisors and colleagues but the core should remain the same.
Education has been one of the main vehicles that has improved my life significantly and propelled my career forward. These next two years in graduate school in Hiroshima will be interesting, so join me as I continue to log and document the milestones here on Jamaipanese.com
