Capsule hotels in Japan are awesome. They are a kind of overnight accommodation that feature rows of sleeping capsules stacked on each other. The fantastic thing about capsule hotels is they are cheap, usually close to a major train station and provide all the basic amenities you would need when travelling.
Capsule Hotels are for short stays only
Mind you I wouldn’t stay in a capsule hotel for more than 2 nights in a row but when solo travelling its a usually the best option over a hostel or smoky net cafe. Personally, when solo travelling in Japan I find that I don’t spend a lot of time in the hotel room. I am usually up early exploring and shuffling back late at night. When travelling for work I do prefer staying at a regular hotel but 9 times out of 10 I am not the one footing the bill. If I did get to stay at the Gundam-themed hotel though, I WOULD NEVER LEAVE!

Matsue Urban Cubic room
The Capsule Hotel I have stayed at the most since moving to Japan is the Matsue Urban Cubic room. It ticks all the boxes I described above and is fairly new and always spotless. Have you ever stayed at a capsule hotel in Japan or want to? Let me know in a comment below and please feel to ask me any questions as well.
