Virtual Akihabara Station opening soon

Akihabara station is one of the most popular stations in Tokyo. The surrounding areas are always buzzing with events and other happenings. JR East is set to open an online Akihabara Station on March 25th dubbed “Virtual AKIBA World”.

Virtual Akihabara Station

Virtual Akiba World, or VAW, will allow visitors to chat and walk around the station and adjacent areas in Tokyo. JR East plans to hold events in collaboration with the real Akihabara Station, one of the 30 stations on the busy Yamanote Line that loops around the Japanese capital. No event in Tokyo is complete without local celebrities, so of course, Godzilla is expected to make guest appearances.

Akihabara Station

Akiba is special

Akihabara has a special place in my geeky heart and was one of the first places I visited during my September 2011 trip to Japan. I have written a lot about Akihabara over the years such as my Akihabara Electric Town Experience and Photography Blowout, and my visit to the Gundam Cafe. I look forward to exploring the Virtual Akihabara Station when it opens later this month and reporting back.
