Talent shows are all the rage now from singing to dancing to drumming. North American shows like American Idol and Dancing with with the Stars are well known but many countries have produced local versions and Jamaica is no different with shows like Rising Stars, Kings and Queens of Dancehall and the main show that will be referenced in this post Dancin’ Dynamites.

The Dancin’ Dynamites competition which started in 2006 spans a period of three months and 1 week allowing for a thirteen week promotion. Fourteen dance duos are selected from an island-wide search and weekly dancers present their 2 minute routine live on Television Jamaica (TVJ). I used to watch in the early days religiously but now I’ll just glimpse an interesting dance and unique performance every now and again if I hear any commotion. A dance group from Japan calling themselves “Ichi-Bam” has created quite the commotion when the exploded on the Dancin’ Dynamite scene last month. I didn’t see the exact show but thanks for my friend Sachi who is a Japanese lady living in Jamaica I got a chance to see the video which I have embedded below.
fueled by comedy but the dancing is quite good!
Japanese dancers ripping up the local scene is nothing new as a female Japanese dancer named Junko won the coveted Dancehall Queen title a couple years ago. This kind of makes me even more excited to got to Japan so I can witness the local dancehall and Jamaican music scene in the land of the rising sun.
