Discord is the here and now but online communities used to be focused on message boards, chatrooms and obscure blogs. There would be discussions about everything from the latest video games to collectables, movies, clothes, astronomy and everything in between. Then came the age of social media and many of these communities fractured as the masses added their voices to the “machine”. As a millennial (I dislike that term), I have gotten a taste of the days before and during social media from the Myspaces to the Hi5s to the MSN messengers to the Farmvilles right up to the Twitters and the Tiktoks. Recently it seems communities are going back to being smaller and more focused.
Discord is a perfect platform for the new emerging communities – it has text, it has voice chat, it has community tools and increasingly you can find discord servers for any kind of community you wish. I created a Discord community to organize gaming sessions with friends and eventually it expanded to cover many of my interests on this blog. Now we discuss not only gaming but also, collectables, coding, learning Japanese and more. So if any or all of those topics interest you join my discord server and invite your friends.
