Death Note the Last Name

Death Note the Last Name is one of the most interesting Japanese films I have ever watched. Desu Nōto (as it is written in romanji and pronounced in Japanese) is created from the very popular manga and anime of the same name and features all its characters. Firstly I must say that all the characters in this movie fit into their live action role perfectly from the anime. Light, L and even the rendered death gods were exceptional in their roles. The movie adaptation has been quite successful in Japan and Asia as a whole. I must admit that I have not completely watched the anime series (which I think recently ended) but it is high on my “anime to watch” list.

For those who for some reason have never heard about the Death note manga or anime let me give you a quick synopsis. Yagami Light is a brilliant but bored high school who was taught by his father to resent the wrongdoers of this world. His life changes when he finds a mysterious black notebook, known as the “Death Note”, lying on the ground one day after school. Anyone whose name is written in the notebook will die and so Light begins to purge the world of criminals. A mysterious and skilled detective known only as L is requested to investigate the mysterious killings and the clash of two great minds with opposing ideologies drive the main plot of the story.

Ryuk is my favourite character so far from the anime and I am glad his personality has not changed one bit in the film. The movie adaptation is a must watch fans of the series and for those who like Japanese/Asian films.
