Unko Kanji Drill Book 1 complete

Learning Kanji is a difficult process but after trying various methods of study I have found success with the Unko Kanji Drill Books. A few months ago I posted about the books and started making my way through Unko Kanji Drill Book 1. I finished it in about 2 months and was VERY proud of myself but I wanted a way to review the content so one of my 7 unorthodox ways to study Japanese was born –ย  I started a Twitter thread @Jamaipanese in February 2020 – more on that further in this post.

Why I like the Unko Kanji Drill Books

I like the Unko Kanji Drill Books because they are a structured, hilarious and methodological approach to learning Kanji. I have tried so many systems from flashcards to expensive textbooks and though some have worked I always dreaded studying and reviewing kanji. With the 1st Unko Kanji Drill Books, I have found a happy middle ground – kanji drilling including writing practice and example sentences with simple vocabulary and sentence structures (I haven’t stopped using the flashcards and textbooks though). Also, it’s a great conversation topic here in Japan with kids and adults alike!

Unko Kanji Drill X Twitter

In my second romp through the book, I wanted to focus more on the example sentences. I came up with the no-very-original idea to start a Twitter thread and things got even more fun. I could share what I was reading – practice reading out loud and also interact with other Japanese learners on twitter all at my own pace.

In my quest to pass the JLPT N4 I will be posting highlights as I go through the Unko Kanji Books ? which are aimed at elementary school kids in Japan. Hopefully, others will find it interesting and join me on this frustrating but pooptastic kanji-learning journey #ใ†ใ‚“ใ“ใƒ‰ใƒชใƒซ
