The Shimanami cycling route between Onomichi Hiroshima and Imabari Ehime, which crosses various islands in the beautiful Seto Inland Sea, continues to be an experience I cannot get enough of. I first did the Shimanami Kaido in 2021 during the pandemic and in May 2024 did it for a third time.
This time I stopped at different attractions like the Kousanji. The weather was perfect with clear skies and warm temperatures but not hot and humid enough yet (in May) to be too oppressive. I cannot recommend doing the Shimanami Kaido enough. Take it easy over two days, get an electric bike if you are unsure about your fitness, do it in a group and enjoy the beautiful scenery and nature no matter which direction you decide to start from.
