I had never played a mainline Pikmin game before getting Pikmin 4. My only experience with Pikmin was playing the mobile game Pikmin Bloom after Pokemon Go became stressful to play. I found Bloom was more calming and allowed me to play when and how I wanted.

Trapped by the Demo
Pikmin 4 released a demo that if you complete it allowed you to get a special item in Pikmin Boom. Easy enough, I play Bloom “almost” daily anyway. The demo was long (in a good way) and so fricken enjoyable that I immediately got the full version so I could feed my addiction. Pikmin 4 is no complicated triple-A title with an in-depth story or deep systems. You are simply on a rescue mission using tiny multicoloured minions to solve puzzles, fight monsters, collect loot and try to make sense of a strange “planet”.
More Pikmin 4, please
One week and almost 50 hours later I can’t stop playing even after I rolled the credits. I must rescue everyone, I must collect all the things (I usually hate collecting things in video games), I must cure my “dog” and I must find out what the idiot Louie is up to. Also at some point, the cute brightly lit exterior of the game gave way to a dark menacing casual horror theme where I am watching my minions getting eaten and rethinking if it is a good idea to rescue some of these psychos.
