The year that is 2020 has been “challenging” to put it lightly. My Japanese learning journey continues with my improvements continuing mainly in listening with slow progress being made in writing, reading and kanji. Vocabulary and grammar continue to be the bottleneck and that’s where the JLPT usually provided me with a focus, a goal to aim/study towards.

JLPT N4 again – 3rd time’s a charm?
Since passing the JLPT N5 I have had 2 attempts at the JLPT N4. The first attempt I left too much too late and my uninspired second attempt resulted in even a lower score than my first attempt. 2020 has been a shit show in many ways but now that I am actively studying again I feel refreshed and motivated as other areas of my life are on fire.
Help me stay on track
So, to anyone reading this? Keep me accountable as I try the JLPT N4 again in December and hopefully pass. I got a new book (Shin Kanzen Master N4 Reading) that focuses on reading to join with the other books and resources I already acquired. I also have been having fun working on a programming project turned Twitter bot @Kantaji that shares kanji readings and quizzes. I have plans to continue to expand it as my skills improve.
Here’s hoping that the next time I tweet about something JLPT related that it will be the good news that I passed. Poke me regularly on Twitter @Jamaipanese where I will be tweeting more about my Japanese language learning journey.

Dear Kirk: The year has been challenging for almost everyone! Don’t worry. I will be keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you with this linguistic hurdle – and that will make all the difference! Remember to start preparing EARLY this time! Wishing you all the best and good luck, Emma
