Guin Saga – First Impressions

It’s been a while since I’ve had a special itch scratched by a fantasy type anime that is ripe with good storytelling, a valiant hero, a princess needing to be rescued and hints to something sinister happening in the world. Guin Saga is an anime that premiered recently that I hope will be able to scratch that itch and after watching the first 3 episodes I have found very little to complain about so far.

Oh My God it’s a leopard!

Guin Saga stars Princess Linda and Prince Remus, twins and aires to the to the Kingdom of Parros’ throne. The story starts as their homeland is brutally attacked by a foreign land with their parents being killed in the process. To protect the royal twins they are sent away to a foreign ally only to accidentally end up in the heartland of the enemy. Just as they are discovered they are rescued by a strange half man-like creature who rescues and eventually begin to protect the royal twins. “Guin” as the leopard head man is eventually known as has lost all his memory except the name of a female, he is an excellent fighter and the animal like character and instincts are said to be the result of a curse.

The Parros Twins

I don’t know much about the series other than it is based off a popular and long running series of books but I am impressed by the first couple episodes which were very fast paced. Apart from one or two annoying characters with awkward dialog or scenes so far there isn’t much to hate so I’ll continue to watch this series.

Guin – is it a leopard mask? or is it really magically affixed to his head

No Fair, these guys are using guns!

In a fantasy world evil is never far away

Istavan Spellsword –  he tries so hard to look and act cool

  1. I’m an on again off again fan of anime but this seems like an interesting series

  2. First time I saw this at NHK, I thought it was some kind of Tekken OVA about King. LOL! [smile] He kinda looks like King doesn’t he..

  3. [anime] this anime infulenced a lot of anime/manga and the creator of beserk considered this one of his main muses. its nice to finally see it in anime form!!!!!

      1. You should try the Berserk manga

And on a side note, the author of the Guin Saga novels died recently (a few days ago)

    1. Well if this is anything like Berserk I’ll give it a chance even though I think Berserk is unique I have come across others who fall under the category of a Berserker but they had nothing on Gatts another reason for me to check this out it seems that “Jamaipanese” is becoming my official anime spotter, because I gave up on animes long ago I had stop seen any of interest I think the last decent anime I may have watched was “Gundam Seed” the first not “Destiny” I’ll go free up some hard drive space so that I can check out this and the others that has caught Jamai’s eye.

  4. Well I had a sat down with Guin watched about 10 episodes and though I did not have anything in particular against it, it did not really hold my interest it did not make me want to know whats going to happen next so I let it be to try to protect myself from that retarded sissy prince which I found utterly annoying. I think he should be shot for the greater good of the anime.
