Tea ceremony or Sado is a highly ritualized practice that embodies Japanese aesthetics, philosophy, and spirituality. The tea ceremony in Japan is not just about drinking tea but is a profound experience emphasising mindfulness, respect, and harmony. These core principles were on display recently when I got the chance to learn about and participate in a workshop about tea ceremonies in Hiroshima, Japan.

Everything is ritualized from the way you sit, bow, greet, eat, prepare the tea and more. Every movement and tool serves a purpose and adds to the experience. I have a newfound respect for this kind of ceremony and the core principles of harmony, respect, purity and tranquillity.
