Kanji Starter by Daiki Kasuya had been sitting in my Amazon wishlist for years. Seeing it pop up on social media and most recently on KiaraNYCjp’s discord made me take the plunge and get it. It also helps that it was on sale for 500 yen. It is small and easy to follow and will join Japanese Folktales for Language Learners in my backpack for when I am commuting or need to use some time to do some micro learning instead of doomscrolling on my phone.

Kanji Starter
With Kanji Starter 1, students can learn a quarter of the two thousand characters designated for “daily use” by the Japanese government. Volume 1 concentrates on pictographs and contains some two hundred kanji with memory aids, explanatory drawings, examples of kanji formation by combining elements, and common-use word compounds.
