I have really fallen off the Goshuincho (Temple/Shrine stamp book) train recently but enjoyed a weekend with wonderful fall weather and decided to grab some more stamps. One of the stamps I go this time is from the Gesshoji Temple.

Judo sect Buddhism Temple
Gesshoji Temple is a beautiful temple complex in Matsue City. It belongs to the Judo sect of Buddhism and has an interesting history involving the Matsudaira clan, the first lord’s mother, a giant turtle, Lafcadio Hearn and hydrangea flowers.

Giant Turtle Monument
The temple itself is a short bus ride or drive from the city centre of Matsue. There is a well-marked walking path through the temple (for those not directionally challenged). Honestly, there really isn’t much to catch the eye other than the giant turtle monument; apparently rubbing its head will bless you with long life – so I made sure to rub it.

On more stamp collected
I was really glad to start collecting temple/shrine stamps again and I will do better going forward to tote my Goshuincho along on more adventures. Got any questions? Do you have a Goshuincho? Tweet me @Jamaipanese and enjoy more pictures below. This shrine would have been the perfect place to make a vlog but alas I also need to do better at that.
