Summer 2007 must have tech item – Apple iPhone

I’ve always thought of myself as a “techie” and i think I am fairly knowledgeable of all the latest tech and gadgets that interest me. Todays all my tech related feeds are brimming with information about the bombshell that apple intents to drop on the mobile phone market this summer – The iPhone. It is kinda like a phone, iPod, PDA fused into one and it’s from apple so you know it has that sleek, crisp, simple look to it’s design. I’ve only seen pictures and read information and I think I am sold and will be dropping down us$500 big ones for one this June. I have thought about and could have but never owned or plan to own a iPod and I have never spent more than ja$8000 (us$120) on cellphone, so it’s my time to splurge a little you think?

iPhone is a wireless handheld device announced by Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs during his keynote speech at the Macworld conference on 9 January 2007. The device is a 2.5G quad band GSM and EDGE cell phone which supports push e-mail, mobile telephone, text messaging, Safari web browsing and other wireless information services. In addition, the touchscreen device also includes functionality found in the iPod series of music players (incorporating the much-anticipated widescreen video iPod), and runs a version of the Mac OS X operating system. It will come equipped with Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) and Bluetooth 2.0, as well as a 2.0-megapixel camera. It will be symettrical both horizontally and vertically, for user ’tilting’ to view videos.

The iPhone is designed for multi-tasking, so users can read a web page while downloading email in the background over Wi-Fi or EDGE.

  1. Hey Jamaipanese,
    Happy New Year. Interesting site.

As far as getting an iPod, honestly it’s quite tempting to have everything in one package, but there are a number of things that they don’t give you. (It’s not out in Japan yet so maybe I am just jealous :-/)

Having used a couple so-called smartphones I am really skeptical that any company can deliver a phone/pda combo that’s worthwhile. Then again, the proof is in playing with the interface I guess.

What was the selling point for you?
