Black Lives Matter Hiroshima Peaceful March

I’m a little late with this one. I travelled from my island to attend theย Black Lives Matter Hiroshima Peaceful March on July 5th. As a black man living in this world where time and time again it’s clear to me from my lived experiences that my value as a human being is diminished because of the colour of my skin.

Racism is a pandemic too

Racism is a plague, a “pandemic”; affecting the human race that manifests in various ways. Many people are protesting (though it is not being shown on the news anymore), marching and fighting because for far too long the system and so much of its inner workings treat black people so much worse.

Black Lives Matter Hiroshima – 8 minutes and 46 seconds

George Floyd (and so many black people in America and elsewhere) did not have to die. Try kneeling on one knee for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. It is hard to do! Imagine doing that on another human being’s neck. I don’t care what they did (allegedly); as a trained officer there must be a better way to control the situation when there are 4 of you and one “suspect”. At the end of the Black Lives Matter Hiroshima Peaceful March when the group knelt for 8 minutes and 46 seconds and in those moments I felt something that I struggle to describe in words because of all the emotions that simmered inside me.

  1. This is great, Kirk! I am so glad you did this. Hiroshima is a good city to have such demonstrations for love, peace and human rights.
