As a photographer myself I am fascinated by very old photographs especially at the dawn of photography. I surfed into a goldmine of photos recently that combined my love of photography and interest in Japan.
MeijiShowa.com is a fascinating website that shows visitors to see:
authentic photographs, maps and other images of Japan from the 1850s through the 1930s. See Japan as it actually was during the Meiji, Taisho and early Showa periods.
I am still going through the images, all of which are also available for sale. Check out the website and the photos for a fascinating look into Japan’s history pre-World War II and its technological transformation int he late 20th century.
