Tourism Boost! Japan to offer 10,000 free tickets

Japan’s tourism industry is still reeling from the March 11th earthquake and resulting nuclear radiation crisis as many travellers continue to avoid Japan. The Japan Tourism Agency has been behind various initiatives to help get the tourists back. Their latest proposal is to offer 10,000  free round-trip tickets to visitors who in return will help spread the word that Japan is open to visitors and safe.

It’s an interesting plan that has me very excited, especially when I read â€œWe are hoping to get highly influential blogger-types, and others who can spread the word that Japan is a safe place to visit. During or after their visits, the agency will ask the recipients to post on blogs or other online social media about their stay in Japan, hoping positive feedback will lure more visitors.”

This has me excited naturally as I enjoyed sharing my recent maiden trip to Japan and still have so many more videos and blogs to share in the coming weeks. I can’t wait to sign up but the plans are in their early stages and funding won’t be approved until the 2012 financial year. I’ll keep sharing any new info as it becomes available here on my blog as well as on Twitter @Jamaipanese and the Jamaipanese.com facebook page.

Hi5 to Grant for beaming me a message with this info yesterday. I’m sure I’m not the only potential applicant excited so leave a comment below and share your thoughts!

  1. I read about this a couple days ago and got extremely excited! This would be such an amazing help in trying to get me back to Japan!

But just to clarify, this is nothing but a proposal yet – it’s nowhere near final so more or less it’s all still up in the air – though of course I’m hoping!

  2. It’ll be a toss up for us – free trip back or have baby…. still, I can’t see why we can’t do both. I’m sure there’s a lot of people mentally packing their bags (amidst the salivating). Long way off though, and there’s no indication of when you’d have to travel. We wait expectantly.

  3. A very good way to get ppl to come here, despite the radiation scare. [love] Japan is very much safe, so Kirk , please tu si ef yu caa get a ting affa dem!
