Make Bob Marley A National Hero

Bob Marley is a worldwide icon and a personal role model of mine, the lyrical content of his songs remain relevant many decades after his death but it is sad that he doesn’t get the official attention he should get from his homeland Jamaica. I was emailed an online petition today that aims to get 1 million signatures before presenting it to the government of Jamaica and I ask that if you know of Mr Marley and his music and think he deserves to be the 8th National Hero of Jamaica that you sign the petition and blog about it on your own blogs if you have one.

Petition Text

It’s been almost 27 years since the death of Bob Marley, yet despite previous appeals by the Marley Family and a host of posthumous awards Jamaica still refuses to accord the Hon. Robert Nesta Marley national hero status, the country’s highest honour. Bob Marley deserves to be among the fraternity of Jamaica’s honored national heroes. To many, Marley was a true musical ambassador and a messenger of peace. He is a legendary icon that cannot and should not be forgotten. Award Bob Marley the Order of National Hero.

  1. thats R.O. thats the spirit!

@ Gordon…the glass is half full Gordon, think positive, have you learnt nothing from Bob’s music?

  2. I’ll definitely sign this petition and post about it on my Japan Man site. Bob Marley is probably the best bringer of peace and musician ever. To me he is the national hero of not just Jamaica but America and the whole world. Great post man.

  3. Bob was indeed a great son of Jamaica and an Icon of our culture. But as for him being a hero, I don’t know, we have enough already. But I agree with Gordon Swaby, if Manley could make it on money then Bob should!

  4. Actually, the apparent marker between hero and icon is the changing of the course of history (a feat met by the other 7); someone may have to make a strong argument for how Bob changed Jamaica’s history.

Anyway agree with stunner and gordon…maybe we can make a $5000 note and put him on it, well that’s if PJ don’t try to squeeze in there first.

  5. Bob Marley is my role model and hes my hero i love how he did not care who new he smoke weed hes brave and i love his music and if they dont make him the 8th hero they are stupid.

  6. i cant believe bob not being celebrated as a national hero,i loved bob as an outside and i thought jamaicans should also give him his respect and make him a national hero, cos he is a role model to thousand of people all across the globe and has brought peace to many in the world, even though dead but still remember as a legend by many.boby i love u to the bone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
