The 2009 World Cosplay Summit was staged from August 1st to 3rd 2009. Thousands of cosplayers and fans of cosplaying decended on Nagoya in Japan for the event with it’s primary attraction being the World Cosplay Championship is which 15 countries would compete for the honour of being cosplay champions of the world.

The 15 countries with contenders this year were Australia, Brazil, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Thailand and the United States. Surprisingly for the first time since the competition started in 2003 Japan won! The World Cosplay Summit is sanctioned and partly organized by the the Japanese government through Japan’s Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ministries which is awesome and would be surprising for any other country except Japan.

Sengoku Basara is an anime that made my Interesting Spring 2009 Anime list…unfortunately I hated it after the first couple episodes, maybe now I can go back and watch the series in its entirety. Anybody reading this watching or have watched the Sengoku Basara anime?

  1. Kinda funny how people from the country that produces anime and made anime and cosplay popular couldn’t win the competition for so long. Well, good for them!
