Jamaica’s 2030 Vision and plan for Development

Filing through all the negative news over the past couple days I heard multiple mentions of a new development plan for Jamaica.

I’m glad that finally there are moves towards a national development plan. Jamaica continues to fall behind the rest of our Caribbean neighbors and the world with barely any growth in our economy each year. I hope that this plan is not derailed by political divisions and uncooperative people. I’ll be following this issue closely in the months and years to come.

Jamaica’s 2030 Vision, which aims to catapult the island into developed country status by that year, is driven by a plan and an approach that is unique in Jamaica’s history of developmental planning.

  1. I was working on the "model" part of this program at PIOJ for the month that I was in Kingston. I ran around Kingston from one government institute to another government ministry collecting data. It was a great experience!

I hope a truly effective reform initiative will be implemented.

  2. 2030 huh? I hope it works. I’ll be an old man by then, if God spares me. I want my grandchildren to live in a safe, prosperous country. So hats off to that.
