It’s been a while since I went to the theatre to watch a film and so last weekend I went to see a film that I having been waiting on for many months. Crank stars Jason Statham as Chev Chelios as he wakes up to find himself under the influence of some foreign substance. He plays a DVD message from a rival hit man who reveals that Chev has been injected with a Chinese poison and he has only an hour to live. Chev soon realizes that the poison can only be slowed by his own adrenaline. With what little time Chev has left alive, he plans to get his revenge on the people who injected him. He then reeks havok through Los Angeles as he fights his way to revenge on the ones who poisoned him. please note that I would like to point out that this movie is very voilent and has strong sexual content, language and voilence and should not be viewed by minors.
Firstly Jason Statham has for a long time been one of my favourite actors since I watched him in the Transporter movies. He has a rough, gritty, slightly rusted style of acting that exels over the refined “pretty boy” type of acting that is now populating Hollywood.
Crank is a mixture of action and comedy that surprised me while I watched it. Judging from the commercials and previews I expected the stereotypical over the top action, lots of explosions and the hero getting the girl in the end but I was so wrong. From start to finish Crank has the viewer entranced by it’s action but relaxed and jovial with some scenes causing uncontrollable laughter. All the actors in this film plays their role excellently and the ending though a bit corny I must admit does well to switch off the high paced action throughout the film.
