7 Japan related Blogs I recently discovered

Before starting my own blog a couple years ago I used to be a big reader of blogs on the various topics that were of interest to me from video games to technology to Japan. I don’t think of myself as an vastly experienced blogger but it has been interesting to watch the Japan niche expand over the years as more and more bloggers join the J-blogging family. I thought I’d share a few awesome Japan related blogs I have discovered over the past few months. Check them out and then share the link to an awesome Japan related blog you’d like to share in the comments below.

  • Zonjineko! – A blog about Japan written by an Aussie who visit frequently who wants to share his experiences traveling and learning the Japanese language. Check it out as awesome photography and relevant language tips await.

  • Wide Island View – A magazine style website written by JET program participants in Hiroshima Japan. As someone interested it participating in the JET program in the future it’s good to be able to read about the experiences of current participants.

  • Raw Japan – Japan is more than just samurai, anime, technology, geisha,, trains, moe, temples etc. As one of the largest economies in the world what happens in Japan seriously affects what happens economically, socially and politically in other countries. Raw Japan provides that look into the serious side of Japan.

  • Chokochoko – Don’t let the lack of it’s own top level domain name fool you, this site is easily one of the best Japanese language blogs I have ever seen packed full of Japanese writing, reading, study tips and freebies. A MUST visit for Japanese language learners.

  • CNNgo Tokyo – The least recent of my recently discovered J-blogs, I have been following it for just under a year since it’s first few posts. It’s useful articles will a very valuable resource as I plan out the places to go and things to do when Operation Visit Japan reaches it’s later stages.

  • Big Flying Robots – The author of this blog is a longtime internet pal of mine who has inspired me more than he knows. After recently realizing his dream of moving to Japan (Hokkaido) he blogs about his experiences as he discovers new things everyday in the land of the rising sun, complete with lots of photos.

  • XO Tokyo Blog – My interest in Japan and specifically Tokyo has also sparked an interest in fashion and street photography. No other blog that I have seen combines those interest quite like this one and with only two posts so far (at the time of this article) I can’t wait to  see what other awesome Tokyo awesomeness awaits ^_^.

  1. Good list!

And I have a couple more for you:

http://i-cjw.com/blog/ – a mountaineer who goes places most nominally sane people wouldn’t dream of, and brings back incredible photos and superb prose. I don’t even have any great interest in mountaineering but I wouldn’t think of missing one of his posts. They don’t come often enough though.

http://nihonshock.com/ – always interesting miscellany. Notable as the home of the Japanese Cheat Sheet.

http://www.fukuokadreaming.com/ – “A blog about how to see Fukuoka through the eyes of a local and the curiosity of a tourist!” – lots of interesting articles about the Fukuoka area, and some very nice Japanese recipes.

  2. Thanks for sharing these, I just added a few to my Google Reader! I am always looking for new and interesting blogs to read. [japan]

  3. Blogs about Japan seem to be endless. I wonder, if they have as many readers as yours. For me, yours is my mail Japanese themed one, so my friend, I trust you speak the truth and nothing but the truth [tongue]

  4. This isn’t for everyones taste, but they post a lot of interesting and funny stuff. HikanNinja.com does a lot of pop culture and random things.

I’m thinking about using the services of http://lawncaremaintenance.net/ and I wanted to ask if anyone here has employed them in past times. I am interested in both the positive and negative elements of their business. Please make contact with me at your earliest convenience for this is critical. I appreciate it.
